Vintage Reproduction By: Maggie Weldon

Skill Level: Easy Skill

NOTE: If you want to use the finished vintage potholder in the kitchen, I suggest lining them with either a store bought potholder or layers of cotton quilt batting. Another idea is to place hot cookware on the backside of your potholder to protect the front from scorch marks. I have seen a few old potholders with a cotton backing added to them showing signs of scorching. The front of the potholder is like new but the back shows all the wear and tear from use.

Size: About 6" square.

Materials: Crochet Cotton Thread Size #10

White/Red (MC) - 100 yd

Red/White (Color A) - 25 yd

Green (Color B) - 8 yd

Yellow (Color C) - 3 yd

Additional Materials:

Thread Needle;

½" diameter Ring – for Hanger

Quilt Batting (optional)

Crochet Hook: Steel size 7 (1.65 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 8 dc = 1"; 7 rows dc = 2".

Crochet this potholder using crochet cotton thread size 10 and a steel crochet hook to obtain gauge.

This is an easy to follow crochet pattern that is an intermediate skill.  The vintage potholder is created by crocheting 2 sides using double crochet stitches.  Sides are crocheted together.  Candles, Hollies and Berries are crochet separately and sewn on.  Flame is embroidered on.
